How does each part of the Dr.Join Knee Support work?

The Dr.Join Knee Support by BMS CO., LTD. has six parts: a main body, silicone supports, a non-slip guide, strap loops, two elastic springs, and straps in sizes S and L. Together they compress the knee and hold the support in place while you move.

Fall foliage season sends many people out for walks and weekend hikes. The instructions for use list walking, hiking, sports and other daily movement among the times when adjustable external support for the knee may be wanted, so it helps to know what each part is for before you pack the support.

What is the Dr.Join Knee Support?

According to the instructions for use, the Dr.Join Knee Support is intended to support the knee joint by applying compression and holding it in place. It is a non-electric product with no batteries or electronic parts. The U.S. version is model BPSK-U001.

What does each part do?

Part What the instructions say it does
Main body Wraps around the knee and applies supporting compression
Silicone supports The center support holds the kneecap (patella) and patellar tendon in place; the side supports help maintain knee alignment
Non-slip guide Helps the support stay in place during movement
Strap loops Connect the strap to the main body
Elastic springs (2) One on each side of the knee; they flex with knee movement and support the side ligaments
Straps (S and L) Hold the main body in place; you choose the size that matches the circumference below your knee

How do the parts work together?

The silicone body does the wrapping and compressing. The springs on either side move with your knee and support its side ligaments, while the non-slip guide helps the support stay where you put it. The strap decides how snug the whole thing feels, so it is the one part you adjust yourself.

Which strap size matches your knee?

Overall fit range 11.8–18.9 in (30–48 cm). Check the size chart in the instructions for use for S and L.

Measure around your leg just below the kneecap and compare the result with that size chart. One set contains 2 Knee Supports and 4 straps, two of each size, so it covers both knees.

What should you check before heading out?

  • Look the support over for damage and make sure neither spring is bent.
  • Pick the strap that matches your measurement and fasten it so the support feels snug while your knee can still move freely.
  • Seat the center silicone support slightly below the kneecap, with the triangle mark pointing up and one spring on each side of the knee.
  • Once you are on the move, check that nothing has slid. If it has, adjust the strap again without overtightening it.
  • Take the support off from time to time so your skin can rest.

Before you use

Do NOT use this product:

  • On open wounds, or on skin that is infected, inflamed, or severely irritated.
  • If you are allergic to any of its materials.
  • While sleeping.
  • If the product is damaged, deformed, or the springs are bent out of shape.
  • If you cannot feel or communicate pressure or discomfort (unless directed and supervised by a healthcare professional).

Talk to a doctor before using this product if you have an acute (recent) knee injury, a suspected fracture or severe swelling; a skin condition where the support will be worn; poor blood circulation, diabetes or reduced skin sensation in your legs; or if you recently had knee surgery.

Warnings from the instructions for use:

  • Do not overtighten the straps. Excessive compression can restrict blood flow and may cause numbness, tingling, skin damage, or injury. Loosen or remove the support immediately if any of these occur.
  • Stop using this product and consult a healthcare professional right away if you experience pain, numbness, tingling, loss of sensation, skin rash, discoloration, unusual coldness, or swelling while wearing it. Continued use may make the condition worse.
  • Do not wear this product while sleeping. You may not notice excessive pressure while asleep, which can lead to circulation problems or skin injury.
  • Do not use on damaged or irritated skin. If the skin under the support becomes irritated, stop using it until the skin has fully recovered, and see a doctor if the irritation continues.
  • Do not modify, cut, disassemble, or repair this product, and do not bend the springs out of shape. A damaged product may fail to support your knee properly and may cause injury.
  • Keep this product away from small children and pets. The straps may pose an entanglement risk.

This product is not intended to diagnose any condition, and it is not a substitute for professional medical care, rehabilitation, or exercise. It supports the knee from the outside. Individual results vary, and no support product works the same way for everyone. This product will not prevent all knee injuries. No knee support can do that.
